Upcoming resident doctor strike days

The Government knows how to avert strike action – by delivering immediate reforms to fix the specialty training bottleneck, and by setting out a credible path to pay restoration.

Even though more than 90% of you voted in favour of taking action over jobs and pay, what we’ve had offered so far from the Government isn’t good enough. While their latest offer moved forwards on training numbers, there has been no movement on pay.

We have mandates to strike over pay erosion and insufficient specialty training places, and the BMA is now calling for for a full five-day walkout of resident doctors in England, beginning Wednesday 17 December.

This means we are asking all resident doctors to:

  • not begin any shift that is due to start after 07.00 am on Wednesday 17 December, or before 06.59 on Monday 22 December.

If you are working the Tuesday night shift and finish after 7am on the Wednesday, you should finish your shift and hand over as usual.

Find out if you can take part in industrial action as a resident doctor.
