BMA councils are responsible for the formulation of policy throughout the year and for ensuring the implementation of that policy.

UK and national

​UK council

The BMA UK council sets the strategic direction of the association in line with policy decided by the representative body.

Welsh council

As a standing committee of the BMA, Welsh council focuses on all issues relevant to the medical profession and healthcare in Wales; formulating policy and ensuring it is implemented.

Northern Ireland council

The Northern Ireland (NI) council focuses on matters relevant to the medical profession and healthcare in Northern Ireland; formulating policy and ensuring it is implemented.

Scottish council

The Scottish council is a standing committee of the BMA. It focuses on matters relevant to the medical profession and healthcare in Scotland.

Regional

East Midlands regional council

The role of the BMA East Midlands regional council is to work on behalf of BMA members in the East Midlands and provide a focus for BMA activity.

East of England regional council

The aim of the BMA East of England regional council is to develop and be the voice of the profession in the East of England.

London regional council

The BMA London regional council (LRC) brings together all BMA members across all branches of practice in the region to have a say on issues that concern them.

North East regional council

The role of the BMA North East regional council (NERC) is to work on behalf of BMA members in the North East region and provide a focus for BMA activity at a regional level.

North West regional council

The BMA North West regional council (NWRC) works on behalf of BMA members across the North West to provide a regional focus for BMA activity.

South East Coast regional council

The role of the BMA South East Coast regional council (SECRC) is to work on behalf of BMA members across Kent, Surrey and Sussex, to provide a regional focus for BMA activity.

South West regional council

The BMA South West regional council (SWRC) works on behalf of BMA members in the south west region and provides a focus for BMA activity at a regional level.

Yorkshire regional council

The BMA Yorkshire regional council (YRC) works on behalf of BMA members across Yorkshire and Humberside and provides a regional focus for BMA activity.

South Central regional council

The role of the BMA South Central regional council (SCRC) is to work on behalf of members across the old South Central SHA (Strategic Health Authority) area and provide a regional focus for BMA activity.

West Midlands regional council

The BMA West Midlands regional council (WMRC) works on behalf of BMA members across the West Midlands and provides a focus for BMA activity in the area.
