LMC
LMCs interact and work with – and through – the GPC (general practitioners committee) as well as other branch of practice committees and local specialist medical committees in a variety of ways, including conferences, and in providing guidance for practices. You can find contact details for your nearest LMC below.
It's important to note that LMCs are not regional BMA offices. If you wish to contact a BMA regional office, please contact us.

The GPC England convenes an annual conference of representatives of LMCs (local medical committees) in England. The agenda for the conference is set by an agenda committee who are elected each year. GP registrars and LMCs
LMCs represent the interests of all GPs at a local level. As membership organisations, their strength lies in their ability to represent the entirety of the profession, maintaining a corporate memory within general practice.
GP registrars represent the future of the workforce, yet they are often under-represented on LMCs. If left unaddressed, the under-representation of GP registrars risks impacting the strength, effectiveness and credibility of many LMCs, as well as disenfranchising the future of the GP workforce and leaving them without effective local representation.
Our guidance provides strategies for LMCs to engage with GP registrars, encouraging attendance and participation.
Sessional GPs and LMCs
Sessional GPs - including salaried, freelance and locum GPs - constitute an increasingly large segment of the workforce, yet sessionals are often under-represented on LMCs.
Given the funding and workforce crisis in general practice, and the expanding role of LMCs in responding to local challenges, it is now more important than ever that there is good communication between sessional GPs and LMCs.
Our guidance about Sessional GPs and LMCs provides practical solutions to address common barriers to engagement.
