The form of consultant industrial action

The strike is planned to take place from 6:59am on 25 November to 6:59am on 27 November.

Our intended industrial action will take the form of ‘Christmas Day’ cover, as in previous rounds of industrial action. This would ensure that emergency care would continue to be provided but elective or non-emergency work would need to be cancelled. Read our On the day of action guidance.

Consultants provide safe emergency and immediately life-saving care on Christmas day and out of hours 365 days a year, so no patients will be harmed but the Government will hear our message loud and clear.

Our aims

If the Government chooses to act, by formally negotiating with us with a mandate that can lead to a credible offer across our range of demands, then industrial action can and will be stood down.

You can read more about our campaign to make the consultant role sustainable, recognising the value of the profession and ensuring that becoming a consultant remains attractive to the next generation of doctors.
