Improving pay for Isle of Man doctors

Pay for doctors working for Manx Care remains significantly below that paid to your colleagues in 2008. Have your say in the industrial action ballot.

The ballot for industrial action is open

The ballot is open until midday on Thursday 2 July 2026. If you are eligible to vote, you will receive your ballot paper in the post post.

Please post your ballot before 26 June to ensure it arrives in good time to be counted.

Why we are balloting for industrial action

Manx Care’s latest pay offer is a two-year offer replacing the four-year offer already rejected by BMA members. The latest offer is inferior to the rejected offer for most BMA members and does nothing to address pay erosion, in fact compounding the problem by offering below inflation increases for SAS doctors and consultants.

The BMA Local Negotiating Committee has, therefore, rejected the offer and decided to proceed to an industrial action ballot.

Manx Care has offered has offered SAS doctors a pay ward of just 3 per cent for 2025 and 2 pay award for 2026. For consultants, the proposed increases are 2.5 per cent and 2 per cent. The proposed increases for resident doctors of 6 per cent and 9 per cent, while welcome, are being paid for by lower increases for senior colleagues.

Have your say in the industrial action ballot of doctors in the Isle of Man

Our ask is simple - an immediate pay award at a level which is credible and will contribute to achieving full pay restoration for all doctors in the Isle of Man.

We must prevent pay erosion occurring in the future so that the Isle of Man is a place where doctors want to work, and remain working to provide a service to our patients.

We are not worth less than we were in 2008. We are not worth less than doctors working in other countries with higher pay rates.

We cannot go on like this. That is why we are now moving to ballot members for industrial action.

We need a YES vote in this ballot to send a strong message to Manx Care.

To win the ballot the majority must vote YES
