Free membership for final year medical students and retired doctors

We understand how vital it is that doctors are properly protected and supported during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why we are offering free membership to final year medical students and retired doctors.

Final year medical students
  • we are waiving the remainder of your membership subscription for 2019-20.
  • You will pay nothing until 1 October 2020, when we officially move you to FY1 membership.
  • Your new FY1 membership, starting with immediate effect, entitles you to: contract checking, individual employment support and a range of membership benefits, including our wellbeing services.
  • We have produced an extensive range of resources and practical guidance specifically on COVID-19 and these are being added to frequently.
  • You do not need to do anything to update your membership. All payments for final year students have now been suspended until 1 October 2020.

Retired doctors
  • For any retired doctors joining the BMA or any current retired members who are returning to work to support the fight against COVID-19, we are waiving your membership fees until 1 October 2020.
  • For existing members not opting out of temporary GMC registration, your membership will be automatically updated and you will make no further payments until 1 October 2020. We will email you to confirm this action has been taken.
  • New joiners pay nothing until 1 October 2020.
