Background
Myanmar’s healthcare workers continue to be targeted and attacked. Since 2021, there have been over 1,700 systemic attacks and threats against healthcare infrastructure. However, amidst the dangers to themselves, healthcare workers in Myanmar have found a way to persevere and continue to provide care to their patients. The bravery of our healthcare colleagues in Myanmar must be commended, and we must continue to raise awareness and do what we can to ensure that they are protected.
Medical neutrality and international humanitarian law continues to be violated, and actors have not been held to account. We must take action within the UK to end impunity and fight for healthcare workers to be protected in Myanmar, and worldwide.
This webinar aims to provide a platform where we can share about what has been happening in Myanmar over the last 5 years; highlighting the persecution of healthcare workers and attacks against healthcare persisting since the military coup. It will also include a segment on the work of Global Health Partnerships and Health Partnerships Myanmar Community, and bring first hand testimonies from healthcare workers on the ground in Myanmar.
This will be an open webinar aiming to spread awareness about the ongoing crisis and the bravery of Burmese healthcare workers to as many people as possible.
