Dr Peter Holden has today been elected to a three year term as Treasurer of the BMA at its Annual Representative Meeting (ARM). Dr Holden is a GP in Derbyshire and an accredited Consultant in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine.

With a long and distinguished career both within the BMA and as both a company director and charity trustee elsewhere, he brings a unique mix of skills to the role. He will serve as one of the four chief officers of the BMA, alongside the Chair and Deputy Chair of Council and the Chair of the Representative Body.

Accepting the post, he said:

"I am delighted to be elected to the role of Treasurer, and I would like to pay tribute to the service of my predecessor Dr Trevor Pickersgill, who has done much to put the BMA on a secure financial base. My priority as Treasurer will be to maintain and develop that stability. I will also be looking forward to supporting all our members and providing them with the resource necessary to promote the BMA across its representational, professional  and scientific endeavours.

"After many years of service to the BMA I am looking forward to the next chapter serving as one of its chief officers."
