There are two distinct employment contracts in Northern Ireland, the pre-2004 consultant contract and the 2004 consultant contract.

A small number of consultants appointed before 31 March 2004 are on the pre-2004 contract but it is not on offer to new appointments.

The majority of consultants and all new appointments are employed under the 2004 contract. The latest update of the terms and conditions of service was in March 2013.

How do I appeal the mediation decision?

This is laid out in Schedule 4 of the 2004 Consultant Terms and Conditions of Service.

How much notice needs to be given to stop additional PA’s?

The usual period is 3 months in writing. Schedule 6 paragraph 2, bullet point 5 of the 2004 Consultant Terms and Conditions of Service.

Do I need to offer trust an extra PA to do private work?

Yes in line with Schedule 6 paragraph 2 of the 2004 Consultant Terms and Conditions of Service. The obligation is to offer an extra PA and accept if the employer agrees.
