This live online event is free for all BMA member sessional GPs in the UK.

The BMA sessional GP committee invites you to a free, UK-wide virtual event designed exclusively for BMA members who are sessional GPs- that’s any GP who isn’t a partner. This is your space to connect, be heard, and help shape the future of sessional work across the country.

Why attend?

This is the third event in our national engagement series, created to bring sessional GPs together, amplify your experiences, and ensure your voice drives the BMA’s work on your behalf.

This event is all about what the BMA can do to act on your behalf, and the rights you hold as a sessional GP.  With a choice of focused breakout discussions, this event is designed to help you understand your rights, however you choose to work.

Breakout sessions

Salaried GPs

This is where salaried GPs can connect with peers, share experiences, and engage with BMA sessional GP representatives in a supportive space.

We’ll cover job planning, safe working, pay updates including DRRB and contract checking, including the importance of terms no less favourable than the BMA model contract. There will also be time to ask questions and hear how the BMA sessional GP committee is supporting and advocating on behalf of salaried GPs nationally.

Locum GPs

This session is for GPs working as locums to connect with others and discuss the realities of independent practice. We’ll cover securing work, fees and locum agreements, managing workload, pensions and tax, and professional support. You’ll also hear what help the BMA provides for locum GPs.

GPs working in out of hours settings

If you're a GP working in out of hours settings, fully or partially, you can use this session to meet colleagues who understand the pressures of urgent GP care. We’ll discuss workload, safety, rotas, contracts, wellbeing, and current issues affecting OOH services. There will also be updates on template OOH contracts to support your rights.

GPs in private practice

This is for GPs working fully or partly in private practice (looking after self-pay patients), or those interested in exploring it. It’s a chance to connect, share experiences, and discuss the realities of private work, the challenges and opportunities, and the support and representation available from the BMA.
