WJDC co-chairs Amna Babiker and Georgina Budd said:
“We would like to express our solidarity with colleagues in England. Today’s industrial action by junior doctors is the result of years of underinvestment and devaluing of the profession, the decision to strike has not been taken lightly and is truly the last resort for any doctor.
“Despite multiple calls for discussions on pay, years of underfunding have led us to where we are today understaffed, and unsafe with doctors either leaving the country or the profession. Staff and patients deserve better.
“The fight to save the profession through restoring pay is a collective endeavour, we are all striving for a fairer deal that recognises the huge responsibility and sacrifices made by doctors every single day.
“Our colleagues in England have our full support and we will continue to push the Welsh Government to confirm a timeframe for full pay restoration to set an important blueprint in our joint aim to restore the profession.
“Whilst industrial action remains a last resort, we’re prepared to ballot our members should we need to”
