WJDC co-chairs Georgina Budd and Amna Babiker said:
“No doctor comes to this decision lightly, but the overwhelming majority vote in favour of industrial action demonstrates the strength of feeling amongst a generation of demoralised, disillusioned and burnout doctors.
“After years of cuts to pay and services and several attempts to engage with UK government our colleagues in England felt they had run out of options.
“We would like to express our solidarity; we stand shoulder to shoulder with them in the aim to end the devaluing of doctors and the NHS”
Notes to editors
BMA Cymru Wales is currently engaging in pay talks with the Welsh Government as part of our involvement in the NHS Wales partnership forum. This includes deliberating with members on whether to accept the NHS pay award enhancement from the Welsh Government.
The offer also includes a commitment to the principle of pay restoration back to 2008 levels and to working in social partnership to make practical plans to meet this aim.
The final decision will ultimately be taken by the Welsh Partnership Forum who will vote on 27 February on whether to accept the offer.
