By-election 2022 to 2026
By-elections are being held for a four-session term for the following seat:
- one voting member* of the UK Council of the British Medical Association (BMA) from the Eastern region geographical zone.
*Please note that there is a gender maxima constraint on the seat which means only members in the gender categories of 'woman' or 'identify in another way' can be elected.
BMA Council is the principal executive committee of the BMA as a trade union. You can read further details on the activities of Council.
Eligibility
To stand or vote in this election:
- you must be a current member of the BMA with Eastern as your voting region on the BMA Register
- a candidate’s electoral zone* will be used for the purposes of the election. This will be determined by their preferred contact address on the BMA’s register of members at the time when nominations open on 8 August 2022.

Nominations
Nominations are from 10am on Monday 8 August 2022 to 4pm on Monday 22 August 2022.
Candidates must ensure that they read the document Information for Candidates before completing their nomination form.

Casting your vote
Ballot papers will be posted to voting members the week commencing 12 September 2022.
