Applications for the 2017 BMA foundation for medical research grants are now under way, with £625,000 of funding available.
There are a dozen grants covering research into a range of medical conditions, including heart disease, schizophrenia and the impact of work-related pressure within the medical community.
The funding comes through donations and gifts in wills.
Those seeking to apply must be medical practitioners or research scientists, engaged in continuing or prospective research projects.
The deadline for applications is 3 March.
