Leeds SpR in medicine for the elderly Kate Granger has been voted Top Doc 2013 in a BMA Twitter followers poll.
Terminally ill with a rare type of sarcoma, Dr Granger regularly tweets and blogs about her experiences on the other side of healthcare and has written books about coming to terms with her diagnosis and dying.
Dr Granger, who is studying for a University Certificate in Palliative Medicine, was the runaway winner receiving over 270 of the 949 votes cast for 165 different doctors.
Doctor Who and Dr Dre had to be excluded as only medical doctors were allowed.
Waking up to the news on Twitter this morning, Dr Granger tweeted her reaction: ‘Just woke up. Wow! Am I supposed to make a speech?! Seriously though am extremely flattered to be so well thought of...’
Fellow tweeting doctors were quick to post their congratulations to Dr Granger, saying it was a well-deserved win. She beat well-known medics Christian Jessen and Clare Gerada into second and third place respectively.
