Dawsonera, our E-Books provider, now requires the use of Adobe Digital Editions for downloading and opening the PDFs of their e-books. For further information please see our blog post.

Apologies! A Technical Glitch has resulted in old, historic overdue notices from late June/early July being emailed out this afternoon, Wednesday 27 September 2017

We would like to apologise to anyone who received an overdue email notice from us this afternoon for items that you have already returned to us.
Due to a technical glitch with our Library Management System, several hundred historic overdue email notices have been re-sent out this afternoon, rather than just the current ones for today.
All of the erroneous email notices are dated in the range “27/06/2017” to “11/07/2017”, and can be disregarded.
Thank you for your understanding,
BMA Library Staff.

You are no longer allowed to bring Food into the Library

We have now introduced a ban on all food, and non-lidded drinks, in the Library.
This ban has been introduced due to the fact that library users have not been disposing of food leftovers appropriately as well as not returning drinking glasses or crockery to the Hastings Room as requested.
We have previously been lenient with regard to the consumption of drinks and snacks in the library, but a number of users have recently started bringing in cooked and smelly foods – resulting in complaints.
All of the above has left us with no choice but to introduce a complete ban on food, and non-lidded drinks, because we now have a problem with mice!

Refugee Doctors now get free return postage labels when using our Postal Loans Service

Doctors who are registered with the BMA's Refugee Doctor Initiative now get free return postage labels when using our Postal Loans Service, meaning that the service is now completely free for them to use. This is in addition to the free return postage labels that are already provided to medical students and FY1/FY2 doctors.

Our E-Journals Collection - now with easier navigation for the A to Z list

We have added jump links to the A to Z list of our E-Journals, making it quicker and easier to get to the specific titles that you want to access.
There are now over 1,100 titles available in our E-Journals Collection, accessible to all BMA Members, including the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, JAMA, The Lancet, Medical Teacher and Nature.
Our E-Journals Collection can also be browsed and accessed by medical specialties.

Dissertation and Research Services (BMA Members only)

Let us help you by finding the articles that you need to complete your work with free database searches covering Medline, Embase, PsycINFO and HMIC. Or we can train you in searching skills so you can benefit from the wide range of information available to you.
Act now and email [email protected] to request a search or book a 1-2-1 tutorial session.

Quick and Simple access to our E-Books Collection

Our E-Books collection can be accessed via either our online catalogue or the pages on the BMA website that list selections of titles suitable for Medical StudentsJunior Doctors and General Practitioners, as well as key titles in each medical specialty. Both of these routes now just require you to log in with your BMA website username and password. You no longer need to have a separate Dawsonera username and password.
