Institutional membership scheme

The institutional membership scheme is a way to expand our collections and services to the users of medical and health libraries worldwide.

Any library or information service can join. Current members include postgraduate medical centre libraries, medical charities, pharmaceutical companies, research organisations and university libraries.

    (please note this excludes mediated literature searches)
  • Quick and cheap loans with free renewals
  • Articles emailed within 36 hours as standard service
  • Articles emailed or faxed to you within 2 hours or same day with our urgent service
  • Free access to Medline Plus
  • 24/7 online access to services with our online catalogue

Our annual subscription rates are:

  • Public sector (eg. health service and academic libraries) - £85.00 + VAT
  • Single-issue charity - £55.00 + VAT
  • Private sector (eg. pharmaceutical companies) - £750.00 + VAT

The subscription runs from April to March although organisations can join at any time during the year.


Free membership for charities

To qualify charities must be small and be able to provide proof that they are unable to support their own information service. Contact us for more information.

Librarians visiting the library

  • Institutional Member librarians may visit the BMA Library at any time.
  • Staff working for the institution are also welcome to use the Library in person but facilities are only available to doctoral and post-doctoral students who must bring a letter of introduction from the librarian. Facilities include use of the reference collections, networked MEDLINE, multimedia, video and film previewing and self-service photocopying.
