The UK consultants conference is your opportunity to discuss issues that affect you and to influence the work of the BMA’s UK consultants committee on issues ranging from the pandemic, the Government's pay award and resulting pressures facing the health service. The key focus will be the value of the consultant workforce.
What to expect
At our upcoming conference, key focuses will be on building a sustainable future for consultants looking at wellbeing, work-life balance and equalities issues.
This year’s conference will be virtual, and the format will be similar to previous years.
The conference will include structured debate of motions, as well as some virtual workshops.
Who can attend
The conference is open to any UK consultant who is a member of the BMA.
In the first instance, places will be allocated to those who are the elected representative of their NHS MSC (medical staff committee) or equivalent (or, where an MSC is not active, the relevant local negotiating committee) and to members of the UK consultants committee.
After Tuesday 4 January 2022, any remaining places will be allocated to any consultant member of the BMA who wishes to attend, regardless of whether a representative from their organisation has already been appointed.
Not attended the conference before?
A video induction and drop-in session will be arranged for those who have not previously attended to ensure that you are familiar with the format for debate.
Motions for debate
Motions for debate must be submitted in advance by MSCs (or LNCs if no MSC) and regional consultants committees. The deadline for submission of motions is noon on Monday 17 January 2022.
Members are encouraged to use the BMA’s motions advisory service, which offers support to anyone writing or considering writing a motion to the conference.
The service can advise:
- whether the BMA already has similar policy in your chosen area
- provide you with sources for facts and figures to support your argument
- signpost you to further guidance on the topic
- provide guidance on the form BMA motions should take.
Care facilities for children and adult dependants are available for those who request them by Monday 7 February 2022. If you would like further information on care facilities, please indicate this on the registration form.
