Free for nominated representatives

The SAS conference is an opportunity for nominated representatives to network with fellow colleagues, debate key issues and listen to expert speakers.

It is also the main SAS policy setting event for the year ahead, with motions taken forward to the annual representative meeting, which plays a crucial role in BMA work.

Who can attend?

Each regional and national SAS committee can nominate five representatives to attend the conference.

We also encourage to nominate two deputies in case one of the five nominated representatives is unable to attend.

How to register

  1. All nominated representatives will be emailed a registration form to complete.
  2. Once you have received this, please submit your completed form online as soon as possible to confirm your attendance.

What to expect

Teach-in for first time representatives

If you are new to the SAS conference, a teach-in will be held from 9 to 9.25am. It will provide you with an introduction to conference procedures.

Breakfast meeting

There will be an optional breakfast meeting.

You can indicate your attendance on the registration form.

SAS women’s forum: celebrating the success of women SAS doctors

This year’s annual SAS conference is holding a breakfast dedicated to the achievements of women pursuing a career as SAS doctors.

The event will focus on the contribution that SAS women doctors make to our health service, alongside a discussion on the potential barriers they face in their professional development.

Workshops

  • Pensions for SAS doctors – run by Dr Vishal Sharma, BMA pensions committee chair.

  • How to become a specialist - run by Amit Kochhar, SASC UK deputy co-chair for negotiations, and Richard Griffiths, BMA industrial relations officer.

Key speakers

  • Professor Geeta Menon, My journey – living the dream
  • Professor Dame Clare Gerada, Protecting practitioner’s health: the NHS practitioner health programme

SAS conference dinner (optional)

A conference dinner will be held the night before the conference, on Monday 23 May 2022 at BMA House.

This is an opportunity to meet and network with colleagues in a more informal environment, prior to the conference.

Tickets for representatives are £35.00 (including VAT). Please indicate on the registration form if you wish to attend the dinner.

Accommodation and expenses

Once you have registered to attend the conference, you should book your accommodation and travel as soon as possible.

Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses will be reimbursed for representatives, as well as the cost of the conference dinner.

All expenses should be claimed through Concur. More information on how to claim through Concur will be included in the conference joining instructions sent to you once your place is confirmed.
