LNCs across the South East call for Trusts to re-open the Associate Specialist grade Strong lobbying from BMA reps and staff at Local Negotiating Committees (LNCs) seems to be bearing some fruit in the South East as the majority of Trusts are now considering proposals to re-open the Associate Specialist (AS) grade as a local contract. CAMH services in the South East

BMA South East has growing concerns around the state of children’s mental health services in Surrey, Sussex, Kent and Medway. Waiting lists appear to be growing and services appear to be increasingly fragmented and unsatisfactory whilst GPs have been frustrated that the threshold to see children appears to be too high, meaning existing CAMHS are not seeing children with marked mental health problems. The BMA has...

    South East coast by-election result

This year, BMA council increased in size rising from 34 to 64 voting members along with a number of ex-officio members. This meant two seats for the South East. Sadly, there were no candidates over the summer election but we were very pleased to see a hotly contested by-election over the Autumn. Congratulations and a warm welcome to Dr Richard Mithen and Dr Gaurav Gupta, who were both elected from a highly competitive...

Mapping STP development across the South East

I am often called upon to give updates to BMA meetings on STP progress across the South East and recently there has been little to tell though that doesn't necessarily mean that there is nothing happening. The story on the ground is pretty uniform, trusts are concentrating on day to day workload and making ends meet. On the face of it not a lot happening on the STP front in most areas although my suspicion is that...

Gender Pay Gap reporting. What's happening in the South East?

31 st March was the deadline for NHS organisations (with over 250 employees) to post details of their Gender Pay Gap (GPG) but many NHS organisations have struggled with this deadline. [1] I have heard some interesting comments from doctors who were puzzled that there was a Gender Pay Gap in the NHS. Of course, the misperception is that this meant that a male and female doctor were being paid differently for the same...
