Future vision for the NHS: local events

As part of the Caring, supportive, collaborative project, we are running a series of local engagement events with BMA members. These events provide an opportunity for doctors working across the country to engage in open conversations, contributing their views and experience to the project.

These conversations will generate ideas that will contribute to improving the health and care system that doctors want to work in.

More details about the events are available below:

If you wish to attend any of these events, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your BMA local members’ engagement team and regional coordinator or contact [email protected].

  • Get involved in the conversation

The events focus on the themes of the project:

    • Culture - How do we create a supportive working culture in which doctors and staff feel able to provide safe, quality care for patients?
    • Workforce - How would you reduce the system pressures on doctors and increase retention?
    • Collaboration and structure - How could leaders in the NHS create an environment where doctors are incentivised to work across the interface between primary and secondary care?

If you have a view on any of these questions, please share it with us at [email protected].

We want to develop positive and workable solutions, and this takes bold thinking. Your contributions will be vital in driving this project forward, to help us create a future vision of the NHS that is caring, supportive and collaborative.

  • What members said at the event - Leeds

BMA council chair Chaand Nagpaul hosted a workshop at Yorkshire Regional Council in Leeds on 31 January 2019.

The session was opened by regional council chair Rajeev Gupta, before doctors separated into three groups to discuss the key themes of the Caring, supportive, collaborative project – culture, workforce, and collaboration. Participants ranged from junior doctors, to locum and sessional GPs, to retired consultants – and even one medical director.
