Contribution rates

Information about the contribution rates payable towards the NHS Pension Scheme with effect from 1 April 2015.

 

Employee contribution rates

From 1 April 2015 the employee contribution rate in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be as for year 2014/15 except for an adjustment to the tier 4/5 boundary.

From 1 April 2015 the employee contribution rate in Scotland will increase.

Employer contribution rates

From 1 April 2015 the employer contribution rates will be as follows:

  • Scotland: 14.9%
  • Northern Ireland: 16.3%

 

From 1 April 2017 the employer contribution rates in England and Wales will be as follows:

  • England and Wales: 14.38%

GP locums working in England and Wales will need to ensure that the NHS pension scheme employer contribution paid to them by the practice increases from 14.3% of their pensionable earnings (90% of the fee) to 14.38%
