Patrick Murphy joined the BMA as Interim Director of Finance in September 2013, later appointed as Director of Finance & Corporate Services in October 2014. A qualified accountant, Patrick’s key responsibility was to provide strategic financial advice on financial, procurement, technology, governance and estate matters to the chief executive, chief officers and board of directors.
He was also lead on strategic financial planning for the organisation, including periodic strategic review and appraisal of the BMA’s activities and new business propositions as well as advising the chief executive and board on strategies to ensure that the BMA achieved its corporate priorities and objectives within a realistic financial framework.
Patrick came from an extensive commercial background holding a number of senior finance roles. Having being involved in a stock market flotation, he has also delivered business turnarounds and transformational change. In 1997, he was appointed to take charge of Samsung Electronics UK’s (SEUK) back-office functions. Taking the lead position for finance, logistics, legal, IT, procurement and customer services. This, during a period of phenomenal growth in revenue from £150m to £1bn in the UK, taking SEUK to be the number one global subsidiary in 2002 of the Samsung Electronics Group. He has also held senior posts at City and Guilds and Nacro.
