What is a local medical committee (LMC)?
LMCs are local representative committees of NHS GPs and represent their interests in their localities to the NHS health authorities.
They interact and work with – and through – the General Practitioners Committee as well as other branch of practice committees and local specialist medical committees in various ways, including conferences.
LMCs are not regional BMA offices. If you wish to contact the BMA regional office please contact us or phone 0300 123 1233 .

Sessional GPs and LMCs
The BMA has produced guidance to address the under-representation of sessional GPs on local medical LMCs and to encourage communication and engagement between GPs and LMCs.
Despite a willingness to encourage sessional GPs and LMCs to engage with each other, there has been a lack of progress. Frustrations are clearly felt on both sides.
