NHS reform: Your stories

We recently asked our members for their personal stories about how the NHS reforms could affect the services or care they provide to patients. Thanks to all of those who contacted us.

We received many emails highlighting examples of how the reforms could have an impact.

Reading through the contributions, there were three clear areas of concern:

  • the emphasis on competition and market forces and how this could threaten the delivery of integrated healthcare, particularly for services that are provided to vulnerable patients or those with rare diseases
  • the fate of public health medicine
  • and the future of medical education and training

We sent a film crew to explore these themes with some of the doctors that sent us their NHS reform stories.

Please take a moment to watch these films and let us know if you agree with the points raised or if you have other concerns by using the comments section beneath each video.

Peers are currently scrutinising the Health and Social Care Bill in the House of Lords and to aid their discussions, we will use these films and your comments to illustrate why so many doctors are worried about the potential impact this legislation could have on patient care.
