Report of the consent working party

A BMA working party has published a new report and accompanying tool kit as a guide to gaining patient consent. It is designed to help doctors work through the practical problems, ethical dilemmas and legal pitfalls.

70,000 copies of the consent toolkit have been distributed to all hospital doctors through the BMA's magazine News Review, and to all clinical and medical directors. The tool kit and the report of the working party that produced it are being sent to medical schools and to undergraduate and post graduate deans. The guide has the backing of the Department of Health and has been produced with financial backing from GlaxoSmithKline.
