NHS complaints and disciplinary procedures
Fees for medical advisers in the second stage of the NHS complaints procedure are shown below and are decided by the Healthcare Commission.
1. NHS Complaints Procedure Independent Review Panel
Effective date: 17 October 2005

Clinical advisers - £250.00
Notes:
- This fee has been notified by the Healthcare Commission and is unagreed with the BMA. The rate is based on a seven-hour day.
- There is discretion to increase payments in exceptional circumstances
- Principal GPs may be paid £350 by the Healthcare Commission for panel work.
2. The Health Service Ombudsman
Effective date: 1 April 2003

Allowances: Travelling allowance and subsistence at civil service rates.
Professional assessors
i) Consultants per day : £187.00
ii) Other doctors per day : £160.00
iii) Locum expenses
- short session (ie 2 hours or less) : up to £90.00
- session (ie 3.5 - 4 hours) : up to £135.00
- day : up to £270.00
Note: Locum expenses apply to GPs and ophthalmic practitioners in family health services.
3. Health board disciplinary committee (Scotland)
Medical member, per day : £150.00

5. NHS tribunal (Scotland)
