The Department of Health Pandemic Flu Contingency Plan and guidance for health professionals and patients can be found online .

Clinical guidelines for patients with an influenza like illness during an influenza pandemic . This document was agreed by the British Thoracic Society, the British Infection Society and the Health Protection Agency. It is published as official UK guidance by the Department of Health in England and covers treatment in hospitals and the community, of both adults and children.

The Health Protection Agency is working with others to protect the UK public from the threat of avian influenza and raise awareness about the disease. This link contains a range of guidance including that related to case definition/clinical features, and algorithms for the management of UK residents presenting with febrile respiratory illness after returning from areas known to have avian influenza or who have had contact with sick, dying or dead birds in the UK or other areas not known to have avian influenza. This is a link to the Epidemic and Pandemic Alert and Response section of the World Health Organisation website. The World Health Organisation is coordinating the global response to human cases of the H5N1 avian influenza and monitoring the corresponding threat of an influenza pandemic.
