Integrated trainingDiscussion paper on an integrated training system for junior doctors

The JDC has issued a report outlining a proposal for a new system of postgraduate training. The government in its recent medical workforce planning review (Improving Working Lives) and The NHS National Plan has signalled that there needs to be improvements to the SHO grade.

The JDC proposes the introduction of proper wide-based general professional training integrated with basic and higher specialist training.

Flexibility of career pathways and elimination of the current bottlenecks are also essential. Training programmes need to be educationally rather than service based.
