Flexible training forum 2004
A framework for the future
February 2004
Foreword
The sixth Flexible Training forum, ‘A Framework for the Future’, was held at BMA House on Friday 13 February.
This year sees the end of the additional funding the Department of Health committed to flexible training in 2002/3 and then again in 2003/04. This has caused a degree of uncertainty about future funding and access to flexible training. For that reason the forum concentrated on what flexible training might look like in years to come. Discussion and presentations focused on barriers to entry, study leave, moving towards competency based training and of course, funding.
In responding to the feedback that we received from the previous year’s forum, this year, with the help of the postgraduate medical deans, we contacted over 90 per cent of all UK based flexible trainees, and experienced our highest figures of attendance yet. The BMA website was also updated to include informative pages about the event and to allow, for the first time, attendees to register their interest on-line.
We have had very positive feedback from this year’s forum, I look forward to seeing some of you again next year and give my whole hearted support to the new flexible training forum chairperson, Dr Simon Minkoff.
Kind regards
Dr Tei Sheraton
