Strategic aims
There is a detailed strategy which is underpinned by the strategic aims, which are
  • Ensure that BMA’s policies, policy development process and other activities consider patients’ perspectives, views, interests, needs and concerns.
  • Improve healthcare for patients.
  • Improve doctors’ and medical students’ working practices, education and training.
The mission and ultimate goal of the PLG is to lead to a patient-centred approach to the organisation and delivery of healthcare.

Terms of reference
The terms of reference for the Group are as follows:
  • To advise Council, its boards and committees on all matters of BMA policy and to contribute to BMA policy development.
  • To advise BMA committees and working parties of patients’/public views on matters under consideration.
  • To bring forward ideas for issues which the BMA should be considering.
