The relationship between practice based commissioning (PBC) consortia and local medical committees (LMCs)

There is no national template determining the relationship between PBC consortia and LMCs and therefore this is an issue for local consideration. The General Practitioners Committee's (GPC's) commissioning and service development subcommittee has however made some general comments on this subject, presented here in a question and answer format, which LMCs may find helpful.

In addition, a recent GPC guidance note on enhanced services, 'Enhanced services and floors from April 2007', includes a section which illustrate some of the complexities surrounding enhanced services and PBC, which will also have an impact on the relationship between PBC consortia and LMCs. This has been reproduced in the attached at appendix 1.
