This document from the BMA’s medical academic staff committee is focused on engaging women with academic medicine. Women are severely under-represented as clinical researchers, full time academics and heads of departments, yet they are a growing proportion of the medical workforce. To promote women in academic medicine, there needs to be significant structural and cultural change.

This report examines equality and diversity in royal college examinations. It presents the survey results collected from individual royal colleges on their equal opportunities monitoring of examination candidates and examiners, and on the equality and diversity training provided to examiners. The section on gender looks at the prevalence of gender monitoring and as well as the representation of women on examiners’ panels compared to the consultant workforce.
