Medical Students Committee survey - MTAS, October 2007
This is a report following a survey of medical students asking about their views and experience of the application process for foundation training programmes.

The newsletter covers issues such as the latest advice to MTAS applicants to England, Department of Health guidance, job adverts and resolutions made at the recent Junior Doctors Committee meeting.

Letter sent to MPs concerning MTAS and MMC, 19 April 2007
The Junior Doctors Committee has written to all MPs in advance of an Opposition Day Debate in the House of Commons on MMC on Tuesday 24 April.

Update on ACFs and MTAS, April 2007
Although it was intended that Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) posts commencing in 2007 would be advertised and appointed locally before the main round of recruitment to specialty training, a number of ACF posts were included in the MTAS computer application system. Since their inclusion, the BMA’s Medical Academic Staff Committee (MASC) has received numerous reports of problems both from consultants involved in shortlisting ACFs and from junior doctors applying for ACF posts in MTAS.

MTAS update, Scotland, 30 March 2007
The Scottish Executive has announced that all eligible applicants to Scotland will be offered interviews in all Specialties to which they have applied.

MTAS - Application to speciality training in Wales, 30 March 2007
As a result of discussions by the Deanery with Consultants, Specialty leads and Post graduate organisers it has been agreed the interviews conducted within Wales have been robust, fair and able to discriminate between candidates. As a result of there being no confidence in the short listing process it has been agreed by the Welsh Deanery, Welsh Assembly Government and the Welsh Junior Doctors Committee that ALL applicants to Wales will be offered interviews in all Specialties.
