Ovid basics: author search

You are looking for an article by Anne Ponsonby. You don't know whether she has a second forename. To look for her:

1. Select from the icons along the top of the Main Search page;
2. You will be asked to "Enter the Author's last name, a space, and first initial if known:"
3. Type ponsonby a into the search box and click

4. You are now taken to the system's list of authors. Be aware that even if you know the author's initials, they may cite themselves using just one initial on some occasions and more than one initial on other occasions depending on the publication style of the journal.

5. You will see that two entries in the list could possibly be Anne Ponsonby, so place a tick (click) by each one and click

6. You are returned to the Main Search page as below. You can see that the system has translated your search into one command line. Details on carrying out an author search using commands are in the short-cuts section.
