Features of MEDLINE Plus
MEDLINE Plus is a BMA library service, exclusive to BMA personal members. We provide access to the MEDLINE database from our own servers using software supplied by Ovid Technologies, and data from the National Library of Medicine in the USA. MEDLINE Plus includes the following:
  • The complete MEDLINE database from 1966 onwards;
  • The powerful Ovid search software, which maps your own words to suggested controlled search terms;
  • An online ordering facility where we send an email to you with the scanned article as a PDF (Adobe Acrobat) attachment;
  • The ability to print or download results locally or to email;
  • The capability to save results for import into reference manager software;
  • The ability to search selected time periods or the whole database at once.
As well as providing access for you to search the database for yourself we also offer the following as part of the MEDLINE Plus service (for more details see the following sections):
  • A free search service - we will search MEDLINE Plus on your behalf and email or post the results to you;
  • An alerting service, where we email you the new additions to MEDLINE Plus in your subject area each time the database is updated;
  • Our friendly helpdesk, where we help with MEDLINE Plus queries including forgotten passwords, Internet browser problems, searching strategies and support for common bibliographic software packages.
