Handling the results: bibliographic software

2004 version 2

Saving results for import into bibliographic software
A saved file may also be imported into a bibliographic software package such as Reference Manager or EndNote. Each new version of these programs brings a slightly different method for saving and importing files, so for details of your particular version please consult our Frequently Asked Questions page.
  • Generally for EndNote, save in Medlars/Reprint format from MEDLINE Plus, and import into EndNote using the MEDLINE(OVID) filter.
  • Usually for ProCite, save in Ovid format from MEDLINE Plus, and import into ProCite using OVID OVID as the tagged file format and MEDLINE as the database identifier.
Although it is theoretically possible for a connection file to be set up in the bibliographic software to search MEDLINE Plus, it is not supported by Ovid as the power and flexibility of the search software is lost.
