Introduction
The BMA library has put together some information on child care which members may find useful for their work and research. This information comprises of recent books which are available from the library, UK journals, where we do not hold the journal the website of the journal is given. Other information included are web resources in the area of child health care, which includes the social and economic aspects of child care and main UK agencies/organisations who are involved with child care.

Every child matters
This is a shared programme, underpinned by the Children Act 2004, which aims to improve outcomes for all children and young people through changes in the whole system of children's services including health and social care, education and the Criminal Justice System. The website provides links to key documents in the development of the programme, and to information about different aspects of the programme and main policies. It provides mechanisms for feedback and for comments on future developments.

Centre for Parent and Child support
It is based at the Munro Centre, Guy's Hospital and is part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Directorate of the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. Staffed by clinical psychologists and community nurses, it is a national centre which aims to improve parent and child support services for the promotion of family psychosocial well-being, through training, consultation and research.

Tigerchild
Developed by two mothers, Jocelyn James and Carolyn St Aubyn, it addresses issues that are of major concern to parents, such as schooling, immunisation, and others, topics covered are parenting, health, education, child care and leisure activities.

Children First for Health
Set up by Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital to help young people access child-friendly health advice. It is aimed at children aged three to eighteen, and has three separate areas: TotsFirst, KidsFirst, and GT for teenagers and young adults.

Child Alert
Childalert is a UK website aimed at parents, parents to be and those responsible for childcare. It provides brief information on a wide range of topics related to childcare, such as first aid and common childhood ailments, in addition to family health, family law, nutrition, paediatric physiotherapy, and infertility.
