Facilitating a critical appraisal skills workshop

This one-day workshop is highly interactive and aimed at those who need to facilitate workshops or journal clubs in a clinical setting. The workshop leaders are all experienced facilitators who will share materials and examples to illustrate important teaching points.

Who is it for?
  • Healthcare practitioners who are involved in critical appraisal skills training and would like to improve their facilitation skills.
What is covered?
  • The importance of the icebreaker
  • Understanding and interpreting statistics
  • Handling brainstorming
  • Techniques for rapid appraisal
  • Handling group dynamics
  • Troubleshooting difficult situations.
We will assume you:
  • have a basic understanding of critical appraisal methods and resources.

Workshop objectives:
At the end of the workshop you will:
  • Understand how icebreakers might be used in small group facilitation
  • Understand common statistical methodological techniques
  • Understand how brainstorming might be used in small group facilitation
  • Understand three different techniques for rapid appraisal and have practised at least one of these
  • Have been given some basic tips for effective small group facilitation
  • Have been given some basic tips for trouble shooting small group facilitation
This course is subject to approval for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the Royal College of Physicians for 5 CPD points.

This event gives UKCHIP registrants the opportunity for continuing professional development.
