Salaried GP contracts

Through membership of the BMA, salaried GPs are able to take advantage of a number of employment related support services. These include:

an employment contract checking service with advice on how it relates to the model salaried GP contract
detailed advice and representation on employment contracts
advice and representation on pension issues
representation at grievance hearings, disciplinary hearings and externally before employment tribunals and the civil courts.

This guidance has been updated to take account of legal advice on CPD protected time and NHS GP appraisal, as well as statutory maternity leave changes.

Extended hours - GPC guidance for Salaried GPs - April 2008
As practices consider whether to become involved in the extended access DES or a LES, salaried GPs may be asked to change their hours of work as a result. This guidance note has been produced to assist salaried GPs, and it may also be of assistance to GP practice employers.

GPwSIs employed by a nGMS practice or PCO since 1 April 2004 must be offered at least the model salaried GP terms and conditions.

GPC job planning guidance, November 2005
The General Practitioners Committee's sessional GPs subcommittee has produced this guidance to help all salaried GPs and their employers in preparing a job plan. The job plan is an important document which translates the expectations of employee and employer into a working schedule. It ensures that the post delivers its aims and that the requirements of the employment contract are met.

Salaried GPs: prescribing numbers, March 2006
Salaried GPs are now entitled to have their own prescribing number. Primary Care Oragnisations can apply for an individual unique number for each of the salaried GPs on their Performers' List

Model GP retainer scheme contract, January 2005
The GPC has revised its model GP retainer scheme. This is based on the minimum terms and conditions for salaried GPs employed by a general medical service practice or primary care organisation since April 2004 with some enhancements. It also takes account of the specific conditions of the retainer scheme. We advise that this is read in conjunction with the General Practitioner Committee's Focus on salaried GPs guidance note.

GP retainer scheme: good news, November 2006
The General Practitioners Committee (GPC) has been pressing for the Statement of Financial Entitlements (SFE) to be amended so that an employing practice of a GP retainee is able to continue to receive the retainer fee while the retainee is on leave.

GP RETURNERS
GP returners: guidance from GPC, December 2006 (updated November 2007)
The General Practitioners Committee (GPC) has revised its guidance for GP returners. This guidance now includes advice on the impact of the Minimum Wage Regulations and the Model Salaried GP contract. The guidance also gives advice to GPs who wish to return in the current situation while no new central funding is available for the GP returners' scheme.
