The BMA Library runs courses aimed at all health care professionals. Topics include online searching, evidence-based healthcare and critical appraisal skills. Both personal and Library Institutional members, benefit from a discounted rate.

  • Online searching (basic)

    This full-day practical course will look at the structure of the MEDLINE database, techniques for planning a search and basic search skills.
  • Online searching (advanced)

    This one-day practical course will look at some advanced searching skills, in particular the structure of MEDLINE search filters for use in evidence-based medical practice.
  • Finding the evidence

    This one-day practical course will give an overview of evidence-based healthcare, demonstrate a range of evaluated healthcare resources and tools for searching unevaluated resources, and introduce basic concepts of critical appraisal.
  • Extended Critical Appraisal Skills Workshop

    A workshop on Extended Critical Appraisal Skills provided by the BMA Library and ScHARR.
  • Basic critical appraisal skills

    This one-day workshop gives an intensive overview of the skills needed and resources available for critical appraisal, and will provide ideas on how these can be used on return to the workplace.
