In early 2005, the Junior Doctors Committee began to receive anecdotal reports that current pre-registration house officers (PRHOs) were struggling to find SHO posts to allow them to continue their training from August 2005. By June 2005, the number of incidences were significant, so the BMA surveyed PRHOs to discover the extent of the problem and to allow action to be taken to support them.
