How to use the glossary

September 2007

The glossary has sections on the main regulatory bodies and the three groups of healthcare professionals: doctors, nurses and midwives, and allied healthcare professionals. Each professional group includes a summary and an alphabetical glossary entry for the healthcare professionals in that section.

There are three ways of searching the glossary: Clicking on the title of the healthcare professional will take you to their glossary entry.

The following information is provided for each glossary entry:
  • Title The title by which the healthcare professional is known (and any alternative titles).
  • Location The location or location(s) where you would normally expect to find the healthcare professional.
  • Description A brief description of the duties of the healthcare professional.
  • Training A brief description of the training required of the healthcare professional and the qualifications they might have attained.
  • Regulator The name and link to the body which regulates the healthcare professional.
  • Useful links Links to further relevant information.
