steering group
A steering group has been established with the following terms of reference:
"To produce a review of how healthcare in the UK should be funded. The review should address the following questions:

What kind of health service does the public want or need ?
What resources are required to provide this?
Can these resources be reasonably expected to be provided under present or alternative funding arrangements?
What mechanisms can be used to bridge any 'affordability gap' that may emerge?"

The review will be examining the long term funding needs of healthcare across the UK as a whole, and how these should be met, and aims:

  • To influence opinion on the long term options for UK healthcare funding
  • To raise public awareness and conduct a ‘public debate’ about UK healthcare funding.
  • To involve a broad range of interests in the review.
  • To produce a report which offers a realistic evaluation of the long term options for UK healthcare funding.
  • To use this document to develop policy on the issues raised.

Written evidence on the four questions has been received from a wide range of organisations and individuals, and a summary will be available shortly. The work of the steering group will be supported by supplementary research and a series of seminars.
