Update on GMC Annual Retention Fee for retired doctors

The GMC has announced that it will withdraw the exemption from payment of the annual retention fee for doctors over the age of 65 from 1 November 2008. The BMA and the Retired Members Forum are very concerned about this which will affect many of our retired members.
We issued legal proceedings seeking a judicial review of the GMC's decision and the High Court ruling is expected very shortly.
Retired members affected by the GMC's decision are advised to await the decision of the Court before deciding whether to pay the annual retention fee.
