Equal Opportunities Committee - terms of reference and constitution

February 2007

  • To promote equal opportunities for the medical workforce, and breaking down barriers to career progression, including by research and lobbying
  • To provide appropriate expert advice and guidance on equal opportunities issues for the medical profession in the NHS work place and doctors in training
  • To monitor and review the equal opportunities issues being raised by the membership with the Association’s local offices but not to be involved in advising on individual casework
  • To monitor and review relevant legislation and case law relating to equal opportunities that may impact on the medical profession.
Constitution
6 members elected by Council for three year terms
4 members of staff appointed as observers
1 co-opted member from the NHS Equal Opportunities Unit

The committee shall have the power to co-opt additional members to represent classes of experience which, in the view of the committee, are not adequately represented.
