Immigration update

March 2007

All Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) holders, who had HSMP at the time they applied through the Medical Training Application System (MTAS), i.e. on 5 February 2007, must be considered on an equal footing to EEA applicants during Round One.

This follows an announcement by the Department of Health last week as the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) sought permission for a judicial review into the rules affecting doctors on the HSMP who were applying for specialty training posts.

We are still awaiting guidance as to the position of doctors subject to the immigration rules in Round Two of the application process.

There is more information about recent MTAS developments on the Junior doctors pages of this website at www.bma.org.uk/ap.nsf/Content/HubMTAS
